Usage tips for specific activities

Athletes love elete™ because it allows them to replace the essential electrolytes they lose without consuming all of the sugar and calories commonly found in most sports drinks. Also, elete™ doesn't cause many of the negative side effects, e.g., stomach cramping and nausea, that may occur with sugar-laden electrolyte "sports performance" products. Because elete™ is an electrolyte concentrate, it allows athletes to consume carbohydrates in the manner that works best for them.

Cyclists, runners, and athletes of all types can benefit from elete™. For specific tips on using elete™ in your favorite sport, see below

Cycling, Running, Hiking/Backpacking, Gym

Cycling

During a long, intense ride and/or hot weather, it's critical to stay hydrated. Use elete™ in your water bottle or hydration pack to deliver metered consumption of electrolytes throughout your ride.

Usage Tips:

  • If you use a hydration pack add the appropriate amount of elete to the amount of water you intend carrying i.e. with 2 litres of water use 5.0ml of elete™ (2 x’s 25ml pocket bottle capfuls or 1 teaspoon), with 3 litres of water use 7.5ml of elete™ (3 x’s 25ml capfuls or 1½ teaspoons), etc. or double the dose if you tend to cramp a lot. Shake your pack gently to disperse the electrolytes. Zip the bladder into your pack and you're ready to go -and when you're done, elete™ cleans up easily with water. It won't grow gross fuzzy things in the bladder or valves or leave a funny aftertaste.
  • For a 1 litre water bottle, fill the 25ml pocket bottle cap of elete™ up to the top of the threads or add ½ teaspoon to the water in your bottle, shake and drink.
  • If you normally use a sports drink but dilute it to reduce the sweetness or overall sugar intake, you're also diluting electrolytes, which can lead to cramping as well as impaired performance and recovery. Use elete™ to top off the electrolytes in your bottle and stay hydrated. For people who like to use gels rather than sports drinks to replace calories during performance, elete™ is perfect to use in conjunction with gels because it adds a balanced blend of electrolytes.
  • For longer rides, take the 25ml pocket bottle of elete™ along so you can stay hydrated and help prevent the occurrence of muscle cramps. We have been told that should you cramp the taking of a squirt of neat elete™ directly into the mouth following by a mouthful of water, swilled around the mouth before swallowing, has eased the cramps significantly.

Running

Runners and triathletes are especially vulnerable to dehydration and imbalanced electrolyte levels. Hyponatremia, or a low level of sodium in the blood, can occur if one consumes too much water and not enough electrolytes.

During a marathon or long run, it's essential to replace fluid and electrolytes, but this can pose a challenge for most runners. Many dislike the flavour and harsh side effects (i.e. stomach cramping, nausea) of sports drinks but worry whether they're further depleting their electrolyte levels by drinking only water.

elete™ is ideal for runners because it allows you to replace electrolyte levels and hydrate with water. elete™ can be used during and after an event or run. It won't cause stomach distress, which is common with other electrolyte-replacement products and it provides more of the essential electrolytes athletes need like magnesium - essential for maintaining energy.

Usage Tips:

  • The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) recommends athletes drink 500 ml of fluid two hours before exercise and at regular intervals during exercise to replace water lost through sweat.
  • The ACSM further recommends athletes consume the proper amount of electrolytes if exercising intensely for more than one hour.
  • To ensure optimal hydration during your run, tuck an elete™ multi-serving pocket pack into your jersey or running shorts. The bottle is compact, lightweight, and easy to carry, and you can shoot a few drops of elete™ on your tongue to instantly replace electrolytes and ward off fatigue.
